Cabernet Jura is a fungus-resistant new red wine variety from Switzerland.

Origin, descent

It was bred by Valentin Blattner from Soyhières in the canton of Jura , Switzerland . The variety is also known under the breeder name VB 5-02 or Valentin Blattner 5-02. It is a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon x unknown resistant partners. The grape variety is part of the group of fungus-resistant (short: PIWI-) vines against botrytis , powdery mildew and downy mildew . In 2006 the variety was registered for plant variety protection.

distribution

The grape variety is grown in the Swiss cantons of Aargau , Basel-Landschaft , Bern , Geneva , Graubünden , Jura , Schaffhausen , Schwyz , Solothurn , St. Gallen , Ticino , Thurgau and Zurich , Zug . The cultivation area is 19.5 hectares.

Ampelographic features

  • The shoot tip is hairy with medium wool and weak anthocyanin coloration
  • The sheet is pentagonal with three lobes and with a V-shaped profile; Blade weakly waffled and very weakly vesicular; Leaf teeth straight on both sides; Pedunculate bay open with U-shaped base; Underside of leaf slightly hairy.
  • The grape is cylindrical to conical, little shouldered and loose berries. The berries are round, small to medium-sized and covered by an evenly thick layer of wax. Berries shrink when they are very ripe.

Maturity: medium late

Yield

The yield is regular and medium to high. Due to the high yield, yield regulation is often necessary.

Wine

The wine is fruity, full-bodied, dense and has a dark, ruby-red color that resembles Cabernet Sauvignon .

properties

The variety has a very good winter frost resistance and very good resistance to Oidium and Botrytis. Good resistance to downy mildew. The upright growth has advantages when working with foliage. Because of the very strong growth of shoots, vigorous locations should not be used for the construction of a new plant. Disadvantages are the stalk paralysis and the poor Mg absorption.
