Michael Werba

Michael Werba (born June 26, 1955 in Vienna ) is an Austrian bassoonist and member of the Vienna Philharmonic .

Life

Michael Werba has been principal bassoonist with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera since 1977 . He is the son of music professors Erik and Ady Werba. From 1968 he studied with Karl Öhlberger at the University of Music in Vienna. In 1974 he graduated from the music school in Vienna. In 1977 he passed the diploma examination with distinction and honoring award from the Federal Ministry for Education and the Arts .

Since 1982 he has been the head of the bassoon class at the Vienna Conservatory . He gave master classes for wind chamber music in Millstatt . He also supervised wind courses and orchestras at the New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami , Florida / USA and at the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo . He supervised other master classes in Florence , Tokyo , Kyoto , Seoul , Minnesota and many other places.

He has also given public lectures (in German and English) on the Viennese wind style with demonstrations and explanations at various music centers around the world and has appeared as a soloist with works by Antonio Vivaldi , Joseph Haydn , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and other composers.

Since 1994 he has been the initiator and musical director of the concert series Philharmonia Mödling.

Since 2004 he has been the director of the “Vienna Classics” ensemble and has traveled and performed in Europe, Japan, Australia and the USA.

He has been married to Edith since 1979 and has three children with her (Stephan, Christian and Claudia).
