Michael Wetzel (literary scholar)

Michael Wetzel (born May 25, 1952 in Berlin ) is a German literary and media scholar .

Life

Michael Wetzel studied philosophy , literary studies, linguistics and education at the Universities of Bochum and Düsseldorf from 1972 to 1980. His doctorate followed in 1980 at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Düsseldorf with his dissertation on autonomy and authenticity . Investigations into the constitution and configuration of modern subjectivity . 1986/87 Michael Wetzel worked as an assistant at the University of Savoy in Chambéry . From 1987 to 1990 Wetzel was the coordinator for the national DFG research project Literature and Media at the University of Kassel . In 1992 he became program director of the Langues et nations project at the Collège international de philosophie in Paris. He completed his habilitation in 1996 at the University of Essen with the thesis Kindsbräute. Motifs and media of a male fantasy .

Michael Wetzel has been Professor of Modern German Literature and Media Studies at the German Department of the University of Bonn since 2002 . From 2005 to 2008 Wetzel headed the sub-project From Intermediality to Inframediality . This sub-project was part of the Media and Cultural Communication Research College , a project of the universities of Aachen, Bonn, Bochum and Cologne.

Research areas

Wetzel's research areas are intermediality (“inframediality”), interculturality (in comparison between Europe and Japan), history of the concept of author and artist, concepts and practices of contemporary artistic creativity as well as male fantasies and gender concepts in their literary and audiovisual media implementation.
