Michael Woodford (Manager)

Michael Woodford , MBE (born June 12, 1960 ) is a British manager and whistleblower of the Olympus affair.

Life

Michael Woodford grew up in Liverpool . He worked for Olympus since 1980 . In January 2002, Woodford was inducted into the Order of the British Empire in recognition of his services to leading KeyMed and its commitment to road safety techniques . In April 2011 he was named President of the Olympus Confederation and Chief Operating Officer (COO) , making him one of the first Europeans to lead a Japanese-controlled corporation. In October 2011 he went to the top of the entire company as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) . When Woodford wanted to criticize the company's accounting on the company's board of directors shortly afterwards , he was promptly dismissed. Woodford publicized what he believed to be corrupt practices in the Financial Times , which led to a number of top executives, including his predecessor as CEO, appearing in court.

Woodford himself was able to win a settlement of 12 million euros in a British court.

Woodford was voted “Business Person of the Year” in 2011 by the British newspapers Sunday Times , The Independent and The Sun and in 2012 received an “ArcelorMittal Boldness in Business Award” from the Financial Times.

Woodford lives in London with his family .
