Michael Woolston Ash
Michael Woolston Ash (born March 5, 1789 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † December 14, 1858 there ) was an American politician . Between 1835 and 1837 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1811, Michael Ash began working in this profession in Philadelphia. During the British-American War he was an officer in a volunteer unit from Pennsylvania. After the war he practiced as a lawyer together with the later US President James Buchanan . He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .
In the congressional election of 1834 , Ash was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded John Goddard Watmough on March 4, 1831 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1836, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1837 . These were determined by the discussions about the policy of President Andrew Jackson .
After his time in the US House of Representatives, Michael Ash worked again as a lawyer. He died on December 14, 1858 in his hometown of Philadelphia, where he was also buried.
