William Hiester
William Hiester (born October 10, 1790 in Berne , Pennsylvania , † October 13, 1853 in New Holland , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1831 and 1837 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
William Hiester was born on October 10, 1790 in Berne, Pennsylvania, attended schools there and then worked in agriculture and trade in Lancaster County . During the British-American War he served as a Second Lieutenant in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in the company under Captain Jacob Marshall .
Later, Hiester was active in local politics and government, and between 1823 and 1828 justice of the peace. In 1828 he ran unsuccessfully for the United States Congress . In the congressional elections in 1830 he was then elected to March 4, 1831 as a member of the Anti-Masonic Party in the fourth constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 4, 1837 . In 1837 Hiester took part as a delegate to a constitutional convention of the state of Pennsylvania. From 1840 to 1842 he was a member of the Senate of Pennsylvania , in 1842 its president pro tempore.
William Hiester died on October 13, 1853 in New Holland, Pennsylvania, and was buried in Lancaster Cemetery in Lancaster, Pennsylvania . He left his son, Isaac Ellmaker Hiester , also an American politician and representative of the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives.
