Michael deCourcy Hinds

Michael deCourcy Hinds ( 1947 - September 19, 2005 in New York City ) was an American journalist, correspondent for the New York Times and author.

DeCourcy Hinds grew up in Boston and studied at the Boston Latin School and Boston University . As a member of the Peace Corps , he was in Senegal in West Africa.

Michael deCourcy Hinds has worked as a journalist since 1978, including 16 years as the national correspondent for the "New York Times", for which he wrote " more than a million words ". It won the newspaper's "Publisher's Award for Distinguished Reporting" twice and received the "Roger Starr Journalism Award" from the "Citizens Housing and Planning Council" of New York City.

From 1994 to 2002 Hinds was the executive editor and vice president of Public Agenda , founded by Cyrus Vance and Daniel Yankelovich and an independent, nonprofit research organization based in New York. In this role, Hinds wrote several guides on public discussions, for example America's global role, school reforms, party funding, the Internet, etc.

As a consultant to the Annie E. Casey Foundation (AECF), he took care of the documentation of a job initiative and articles in the monthly newspaper. Since 2002 he has been involved with the renowned " Carnegie Corporation of New York ".

He died at the age of 58 in the New York Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Hospital in Manhattan . Hinds left behind his wife Susan Lapinski and two daughters.
