Michail Illarionowitsch Artamonov
Michail Illarionowitsch Artamonow ( Russian Михаил Илларионович Артамонов ; born November 23, 1898 in Vygolovo , Tver Oblast ; † July 31, 1972 in Leningrad ) was a Russian archaeologist and historian .
Life
Artamonov studied history at the St. Petersburg State University . As the successor to Joseph Orbeli , he was director of the Hermitage in Leningrad from 1951 to 1964 . Boris Borissowitsch Piotrowski followed him in office as museum director .
