Mikhail Wielhorski

Mikhail Vielgorsky ( Wjelhorski , born October 31 . Jul / 11. November  1787 greg. In Volyn , † September 9 jul. / 21st September  1856 greg. In Moscow ) was a Russian patron , cellist and composer Polish-Russian origin.

Life

Wielhorski studied music and was a student of Kiesewetter and Romberg. He composed a number of popular songs. His home in Saint Petersburg was a center of the city's musical and literary circles. Robert Schumann was impressed by his skills as a cellist on a trip to Russia. Michail Wielhorski was considered a friend of Tsar Nicholas I and he had the job of the court ministry to select musicians and introduce them to the court in St. Petersburg. Adolph von Henselt (1814–1889) and Liszt played there, among others .
