On the situation of Christians

In October 2010 he was a delegate at the special assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome and commented on the situation of Christians in Lebanon. In his statement, he pointed out three focal points: a) The selection and training of clergymen must be geared more towards the calling and not towards the possible career, b) the jurisdiction is partly state-oriented and partly religious-Islamic . This leads to different power relations, and c) the work of the laity must be strengthened, this means that the Christians must experience a certain positive laicism. Regarding the situation of Christians in Iraq, he questioned:

“Are we even able to solve the problems of all our churches? I doubt it! Take, for example, the problems of the Christian churches in Iraq - they are of a political nature and can therefore only be solved politically ... Many lay people wonder how they will be treated if they profess to be Christians - that's why they give themselves a shot Secularity, depending on how emancipated your (often Muslim) interlocutor is. We should allow these laypeople a certain liberalism ... "
