The archeparchy Tyros ( Latin Archidioecesis Tyrensis Graecorum Melkitarum ) is in Lebanon located ore diocese of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church , based in Tire .

history

The historical origin is traced back to the New Testament . In the Acts of the Apostles , the parish of Tire (also Tire) is mentioned in the missionary journey of the apostle Paul "From Milet via Caesarea to Jerusalem" ( Acts 21,3-7  EU ). The Roman Catholic Church established the Archdiocese of Tire around 1124, the area encompassed the city and the surrounding area of ​​Tire. Since Tire was conquered by the Muslim Mamluks in 1291 , the archbishopric has been renamed the titular archbishopric of Tire .

The Archeparchy of Tire of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church was established in 1683, the first Melkite archbishop was Euthymios Saifi . Under Patriarch Kyrillos VI. Tanas , the Melkite Patriarchate was reorganized, from 1752 to 1804 the Archeparch of Sidon and 1759-1804 the Archeparch of Akka ( Jerusalem ) was incorporated.

Archbishops of Tire

From December 30, 1985 until the election of Archimandrite Jean Assaad Haddad as the new Archbishop, the bishopric was vacant and was administered by the Vicar General Archimandrite Paul Samaha.
