Titular Archdiocese of Tire
The Archdiocese of Tire is a titular archbishopric of the Roman Catholic Church . The archbishopric was established no later than 1124 and included the city and the surrounding area of Tire . Since Tire was conquered by the Muslim Mamluks in 1291 , the archbishopric has been a titular archbishopric.
Archdiocese
Prior to the Crusades, the Bishop of Tire was traditionally subordinate to the Patriarch of Antioch , but as part of the Kingdom of Jerusalem rather than the Principality of Antioch , it was assigned to the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem . The diocese of Phenicia belonged to the archbishopric . The most famous archbishop of Tire was the historian Wilhelm von Tire (1175–1186). Traditionally, the patriarch was first Archbishop of Tire or Caesarea Maritima .
