The Akka Archeparchy ( Latin Archieparchia Ptolemaidensis Melchitarum ) is a Melkite Archparchy with its seat in Haifa, unified with the Roman Catholic Church .

history

The Archparchy was established in 1759 from cessions of territory from the Archdiocese of Tire . It goes back to an ancient bishopric in Akka (Akko [n]) from the third century .

Prophet Elias Cathedral in Haifa

Pope Paul VI elevated it with the Apostolic Constitution Episcopalis synodus on November 18, 1964 to an archeparchy. The Prophet Elias Cathedral was built in Haifa in 1939.
