Michel Jobert

Michel Jobert (born September 11, 1921 in Meknes , Morocco , † May 25, 2002 in Paris ) was a French politician .

Life

Jobert took part in the Second World War as a soldier in the theaters of war in North Africa and Italy . His regiment was mistakenly bombed twice by the Americans, in which he almost lost his life.

From 1969 to 1973 he served as a senior official of the Elysée Palace . From April 4, 1973 to May 28, 1974 Jobert was Foreign Minister of the Fifth French Republic under Prime Minister Pierre Messmer .

During the 1974 election campaign he supported Jacques Chaban-Delmas , but after Valéry Giscard d'Estaing's election victory , Jobert founded his own political movement, the Mouvement des démocrates . In 1981 he supported François Mitterrand in the presidential election campaign and then became Minister of Foreign Trade with the title of Minister of State. He resigned from this office in 1983.
