Michel Edouard Levie (born October 4, 1851 in Binche , Hainaut , Belgium , † March 6, 1939 in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode / Sint-Joost-ten-Node , Brussels-Capital Region ) was a Belgian politician of the Catholic Party .

biography

After attending school, he studied law and was after his promotion to the doctorate in law as a lawyer and as an entrepreneur in Arrondissement Charleroi operates. As such, he was also involved in Christian social policy and was the founder of the Les Ouvriers Reunis cooperative and the Christian Insurance Federation in 1891 . In 1897 he also founded the Tertou s'Maison workers' housing association .

In 1900 he was elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies for the first time , where he represented the interests of the Catholic Party until 1921. In 1901 he was also the founder of the vocational school of the almsmen in the Charleroi arrondissement.

In June 1911 he was appointed Minister of Finance by Prime Minister Charles de Broqueville and held this office until February 1914. He was honored with the honorary title of Minister of State for his political and social services .

In addition, he was chairman of the family union founded in 1921 for many years.
