Michel Odent (born July 7, 1930 ) is a doctor and obstetrician and an important advocate of natural birth.

Odent, a student of so-called soft birth pioneer Frédérick Leboyer , was the chief physician of the maternity department at Pithiviers County Hospital before moving to London in 1990 and setting up the Primal Health Research Center. He became known through numerous publications that deal primarily with pregnancy , childbirth and breastfeeding .

In the delivery room of the clinic in Pithiviers, Odent set up a normal inflatable paddling pool, initially to enable the women to relax in the warm water during labor. From this the meanwhile widespread method of water birth developed .

Odent takes an active part in the public debate about ways out of the climate crisis . He is a co-signer of an open letter published in December 2018, in which politicians have failed in addressing the crisis and are called on to join movements like Extinction Rebellion and to refrain from consumption .
