Michel Sanchis

Michel Sanchis (born September 3, 1951 ) is a former French judoka . He was second in the 1979 World Cup.

Athletic career

The 1.72 m tall Michel Sanchis was military world champion in the weight class up to 80 kilograms in 1971 . In 1974 and 1976 he won the open German championships.

From 1979 he fought in the middleweight division, the weight class up to 86 kilograms. At the Tournoi de Paris he reached the finals in 1979 and was second behind the Japanese Masao Takahashi . At the French Championships in 1979 he was defeated in the final Bertrand Bonelli . Sanchis also took second place at the Mediterranean Games in Split, where he was defeated by the Yugoslav Slavko Obadov . At the World Championships in Paris he defeated the Brazilian Walter Carmona in the quarterfinals and the Spaniard José Antonio Cechini in the semifinals , while Sanchis Detlef Ultsch from the GDR was defeated in the final .

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, Michel Sanchis retired in his first fight against José Antonio Cechini with a coca rating. In 1981 Sanchis lost to his compatriot Bernard Tchoullouyan in the final of the Tournoi de Paris . Three months later, Tchoullouyan also won the final of the French championships. Michel Sanchis won his only French championship title in 1982 against François Fournier .
