Michele Serena (born March 10, 1970 in Mestre ) is a former Italian football player and coach who played in various positions, primarily in right full defense, but also in defensive midfield.
Career
Michele Serena began his career in the 1986/87 season with his hometown club, AC Mestre, in Serie C2 . In 1988 he was promoted to Serie C1 with Mestre . In 1990 Juventus became aware of the agile defender and brought him to Turin. Without having a permanent place in the squad, Serena was involved in winning the UEFA Cup that same year . When he did not get a regular seat at Juventus in the 1990/91 season, he moved to Serie C1 at AC Monza during the winter break in order to be able to play.
The next season saw him again in Serie A, this time at Hellas Verona , where he only stayed for one season. In the 1992/93 season he moved to Sampdoria Genoa . He stayed in Genoa for three seasons and won the Coppa Italia in 1994 . A subsequent stay at Fiorentina from 1995 to 1998 led to another win of the cup in 1996.
Then Serena went to Spain for one season , in the Primera División at Atlético Madrid . After a good start, Atlético did not experience a satisfactory season and was only thirteenth in the table in the Spanish league. In the UEFA Cup, however, they reached the semi-finals, in which the club lost 3-1 and 2-1 to AC Parma .
Serena moved to Parma in the following season, 1999/2000. Here he won his last title with the Supercoppa Italiana . In 2000 he moved to Inter Milan , where he was part of the squad for four seasons before he ended his active career in the Lombardy metropolis with the 2002/03 season.
National team
In 1998, Serena received his first and only appointment to the Squadra Azzurra .
