Mick Tanguy is a comic series about two French Air Force pilots who experience their adventures not only at home, but also in exotic locations. Their assignments take them to the cold of Greenland (here they meet their American colleague Buck Danny ), to Polynesia and the heat of the Arabian desert. After 18 volumes they end their military career and experience new adventures in civil aviation.
main characters
The two protagonists are Mick Tanguy (in the original Michel Tanguy), the serious, radiant hero, always correct and without mistakes, and his colleague Ernest Laverdure (also: René Dupont), who is stupid, reckless and always in the mood for pranks. These two aviators are united by an unshakable friendship that helps them survive their dangerous adventures.
title
In German-speaking countries, the series initially ran briefly at Kauka under the title Rolf and Miki . The name Mick Tangy became better known through its use in Zack magazine and its offshoots as well as in the Carlsen publishing house's album edition . The Ehapa-Verlag used the title Mick Tanguy in its album series The great aviator and racing driver comics . The current German album edition, started by Splitter-Verlag and continued from volume 17 by the cult editions, like the complete edition of Egmont / Ehapa, which started in 2009, bears the title of the original French edition: The Adventures of Tanguy and Laverdure .
The album editions of the original used to run under the full series title: La collection Pilote présente une aventure de Michel Tanguy , later Une Aventure de Tanguy et Laverdure or Les Chevaliers du Ciel - Tanguy et Laverdure .
Authors
The scenarios were provided by the Belgian Jean-Michel Charlier , who in addition to this series also wrote the adventures of Buck Danny and who is one of the most successful authors of Franco-Belgian adventure stories.
The first eight albums were drawn by Albert Uderzo , who here proves that, in addition to his successful Funny series ( Asterix , Umpah-Pah ), he is also able to depict realistic characters and environments.
Jijé was responsible for the next 14 albums, followed by Patrice Serres , who had previously supported Jije on volume 20, with 2 albums.
The last scenario written by Charlier in 1988 (volume 25) was illustrated by Al Coutelis .
After that there was a long break, and Tanguy and Laverdure have only been experiencing new adventures since 2002, conceived by Jean-Claude Laidin and previously staged by Yvan Fernandez and Renaud Garetta .

German complete edition in the Egmont / Ehapa Comic Collection
From 2009 to 2012, the Egmont Comic Collection series by Egmont Ehapa Media GmbH published nine anthologies of the "Adventures of Tanguy and Laverdure" as hardcover versions. The volumes each contain two or three individual albums in chronological order, supplemented by editorial texts, short stories and other material. The problem is that the story "The Spy Who Came From Heaven" printed in volume 8 was not continued as announced in volume 9 with the continuation "The Great Bluff". Instead, the two albums "In serbischer Gefangenschaft" and "Operation Opium" are printed in volume 9. No other anthology has been published since 2012, although with "Le vol 501" (2012) and "Taïaut sur bandits! (2015)" there are two other volumes in the original French. As a result, three individual albums have not appeared in this series, which was intended as a complete edition.
