occupation

Sky Fighters is a 2005 French action film directed by Gérard Pirès , who had great success with his 1998 film Taxi .

action

The film is about the two French fighter pilots who are friends, Antoine “Walk'in” Marchelli and Sébastien “Fahrenheit” Vallois. During the Farnborough International Airshow in England one is combat aircraft of the type Dassault Mirage 2000 stolen. The pilot of the hijacked machine tries to escape hidden under an Airbus A340-600 from Qatar Airways . Because he threatened Vallois, he was shot down with an on-board cannon by Marchelli, also flying a Mirage 2000.

They are later accused that this was just an exercise and that they had to stop the mission as ordered. The two pilots will be released from service with the Air Force . It turns out that Bertrand tampered with the video showing Walk'in shooting down the enemy Mirage 2000 to get him to join the special command. Shortly thereafter, they were offered a special command in the Air Force. It is a race (also called cannonball race) between the French Mirage and a rival General Dynamics F-16 aircraft . A distance of 6600 km over hostile territory to the Horn of Africa is to be flown to demonstrate the potential of the Mirage 2000 and to guarantee a major order for France.

In this competition, the second necessary in -flight refueling of the three Mirage 2000 combat aircraft involved is sabotaged. Only one refueling is carried out. During the inevitable emergency landing on a lonely runway in the middle of the African desert, the planes are hijacked. Although the two fighter pilots manage to overpower the aircraft thieves, killing Ipod, destroy one of the three stolen aircraft using a Fox 2 missile and escape in the other, but one fighter aircraft remains missing. In addition, Lt. Kass kidnapped by the thieves.

The French secret service suspects that an attack in the style of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 is to be carried out in the USA and instructs the two pilots Marchelli and Vallois, who are back in the service of the Air Force, the airspace over Paris during a parade monitor on national holiday . The stolen Mirage 2000 fighter shows up as expected and attempts to shoot down a tanker over the parade, but is prevented from doing so by pilot Marchelli. The pilot, who turns out to be Kass, triggers the ejection seat and escapes, the plane is shot down over uninhabited area.

background

The basis of the storyline is roughly borrowed from the comic Tanguy et Laverdure by Jean-Michel Charlier and Albert Uderzo .

criticism

“The war film, made in the Hollywood tradition, takes action and flat punch lines more important than a meaningful story. The spectacular flight acrobatics alone is captivating. "
