Micro planner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Micro Planner is a project management software for project planning , project documentation and project control . The offering includes a family of project management programs such as X-PERT and Manager for Microsoft and Apple operating systems . Micro Planner generally starts a project with the creation of the network plan , i.e. with the logical sequence based on the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) and Critical Path Method (CPM).

history

PERT was developed in 1958 as part of the Polaris project. This technique has saved an estimated 45% time in the development and manufacture of the Polaris missiles. In the 1970s, PERT was further developed for both military and commercial applications. After its first application for Apple II microcomputers in 1979, the X-PERT software was available for commercial use from 1980. In 1988 version 6 was introduced for simultaneous use for both Microsoft and Macintosh . In 1993, Micro Planner X-PERT received Macworld's second award for second best project management program, followed by other awards in subsequent years.

Areas of application

Micro Planner X-PERT and Micro Planner Manager have been continuously developed since 1979 in line with the latest computer technology . The project management programs are suitable for stand-alone projects as well as for the integration of multiple projects. Project data can be merged, imported or exported across multiple projects, both from other Micro-Planner programs and from Microsoft Project (MPX) and Apple ( MAC OS ). A version for MAC OS X has been in advanced development since July 2008. Since business processes can be clearly visualized with the programs of Micro Planner in analogy to network planning technology, X-PERT and Manager are used for analysis , modeling and synthesis of business processes as well as for throughput time controlling , to increase productivity and for logistics management.

Range of functions

Micro Planner programs use a graphical user interface with standardized pre-setting of the key functions. Project key figures, comparison of resource requirements , progress monitoring, performance analysis , simulations, modeling , target / actual comparisons for dates , resources and costs as well as what-if analyzes can be presented in standardized or in user-specific reports. Status analyzes , bar charts , Gantt charts , milestone overviews , feedback lists and trend analyzes enable accurate planning and control of projects. With Micro Planner, plan changes can be carried out immediately and in an orderly manner throughout the entire project process. Analyzes and reporting take account of responsibilities, processing times, deadlines, dependencies, budgets and costs. The possibility of gathering network plans (so-called hammocks) gives management a condensed overview. The programs can be used in a clear and goal-oriented manner both in projects with a high level of uncertainty and in those with relatively little experience of the project participants.
