As a division of the Swiss trading company Coop, Microspot operates the online shop of the same name microspot.ch for entertainment and home electronics . The range includes items from the areas of home and entertainment electronics as well as living, toys, beauty, jewelry, office, garden, sports and much more. Microspot.ch is part of the Coop cooperative, but operates independently on the market. Microspot generated net sales of CHF 279 million in 2019. In addition to the online shop, microspot.ch has two exhibition rooms in Moosseedorf BE and at Zurich main station and is connected to 450 Coop pick-up locations, where ordered products can be picked up.

history

In 1980, Microspot AG was founded by Bruno Gideon (1931–2015) as a stationary retailer. In 1996 it was taken over by the Coop subsidiary Simeco, which also included Interdiscount. In 1999, all Microspot branches were integrated into the interdiscount chain .

In May 2007, the Microspot brand returned to the market as an online shop for home electronics. In August 2011, the first showroom was opened in Moosseedorf. Another showroom was set up in Dietikon, and there are also 18 pick-up stations in Coop branches in Adliswil, Allaman, Basel (Pfauen and St. Jakob), Bern, Biel, Freiburg, Geneva, Gunzgen, Kriens, Lausanne, Lucerne, Oftringen, Olten , St. Gallen, Winterthur and Zurich (Oerlikon and St. Annahof ). In April 2016, another showroom was opened in the Shopville of Zurich's main train station. With an area of 30 m², this is significantly smaller than the showroom in Moosseedorf and therefore fewer devices are on display, but accessories for cell phones and printers as well as various video and audio cables can be bought directly in the showroom at Zurich main station. The showroom in Dietikon was closed in March 2018.

In 2013 and 2014, Microspot was one of the ten business-to-consumer online shops with the highest turnover in Switzerland. In May 2018 , a fully automated small parts warehouse was opened in Jegenstorf together with the sister company Interdiscount . At the end of 2018, the online marketplace siroop.ch, which was a joint venture between Coop and Swisscom, went offline and is now being gradually integrated into microspot.ch.

Awards

In 2014, Microspot was twice named the cheapest online shop for electronic products by consumer protection organizations.

Microspot was awarded the GOLD medal at the Best of Swiss Web Awards in the Data & Technology Driven Campaigns category in 2018.

In 2019, Microspot was named the cheapest electronics retailer in Switzerland by the Foundation for Consumer Protection.
