Middle Fork Eel River in the Round Valley

The Middle Fork Eel River is a right tributary of the Eel River in the northwest of the US state California . The 112 km long river drains an area of ​​1949 km². The mean discharge not far from the mouth is 42.5 m³ / s.

The Middle Fork Eel River rises on the north slope of Wrights Ridge, one mile south-southwest of Mount The Knob , in Trinity County . It initially flows 3.2 km north. After that, the river changes course and flows in a predominantly southwestern direction through the California Coast Mountains . In the lower reaches, it flows around the town of Covelo in a large arc. At Dos Rios in Mendocino County it finally reaches the Eel River (at river mile 120.5).

On January 19, 1981, a total of 640 km in the river system of the Eel River was designated as a National Wild and Scenic River . The section of the Middle Fork Eel River from its mouth to the southern border of the Yolla Bolly Wilderness Area was placed under protection.

Steelhead trout can be found in the Middle Fork Eel River .
