Midgårds Söner ( Swedish for ' Midgards Sons') was a Nazi punk / Viking rock band from Sweden founded in 1993 .

Band history

On August 3, 1996, Midgårds Söner played with Ultima Thule , Chaos Warrior and Nordwind . This concert was originally supposed to take place in Upper Franconia , but anti-fascists announced protests. The concert was then banned by the police, and a performance at an alternative location in Nuremberg was prevented. Nevertheless, it took place in Haßfurt in front of 1,500 visitors who ( typical for right-wing rock ) were directed to the venue by mobile phone. The first releases appeared on Ultima Thule Records , the record company that the band of the same name founded in 1991 to bring out their own releases. In Germany the albums were released on the Dim Records label .

In 1999 the band finally broke up. The guitarist at the time, Daniel Preda, is now the singer of The Jinx .

Music genre

Due to the musical style, a mixture of Oi! and punk rock as well as the appearance of musicians with a mohawk with patriotic lyrics at the same time , Midgårds Söner was considered one of the first Nazi punk bands. For example, a punk with a black, white and red mohawk can be seen on the cover of the LP Nordens Kall . In fact, the band managed to reach a mainstream audience as well. For example, downloads by the band were temporarily available on the websites of the chains MediaMarkt and Saturn . Besides Ultima Thule, the band is one of the best-known representatives of Viking rock, a sub-genre that was particularly popular in the right-wing extremist music scene in the mid-1990s. Most of the bands in this genre were quite ambiguous in their lyrics, so bands like Nordwind and Chaoskrieger from Germany or Ultima Thule and Hel from Sweden could easily organize concerts.
