Katie suffers from xeroderma pigmentosum . The disease forces her to stay indoors during the day because she has to avoid sunlight. On a night outing, she meets her neighbor Charlie, whom she has adored for a long time. They go on some night outings together and fall in love. Katie dies after a sailing excursion.
