Taiyo no Uta ( jap. タイヨウのうた ., Dt "Song of the Sun") is a Japanese love - drama directed by Norihiro Koizumi from the year 2006 . The singer Yui makes her acting debut in the film as Kaoru Amane, a 16-year-old girl who suffers from the skin disease Xeroderma pigmentosum . The film is also internationally known as A Song to the Sun or Midnight Sun . The film grossed over a billion yen in Japan .

Kaoru Amane is a 16-year-old girl who suffers from xeroderma pigmentosum , a skin disease that requires her to avoid sunlight and stay away during the day. On the other hand, she goes out at night to pursue her great passion on the street, singing and playing the guitar . In the morning before she goes to sleep, she watches a young surfer and his friends through her window . One night she meets the boy named Kōji Fujishiro.

He takes her to town on another night. There it plays on a large square and can gather a considerable audience in front of it. When they both go to the beach later, it is already light and Kaoru quickly runs home. Thereupon Kōji learns about her illness from Kaoru's cousin. Kaoru doesn't want to see him for a while, her condition has worsened. Meanwhile, Kōji has found a recording studio that wants to publish Kaoru's songs. During dinner, he tells Kaoru about his plan for Kaoru's CD .

However, Karou's condition deteriorates and she can no longer play the guitar. However, she still has her voice and still records the songs. However, your family and friends should leave the recording studio and wait for the CD.

After a while, Kaoru sits in a wheelchair and wears a suit that protects against the sun's rays. In the end, Kaoru dies and is buried in a coffin full of sunflowers. Later, a radio station plays Kaoru's songs, and Kōji, Kaoru's friends and family listen.

Taiyō no Uta is the directorial debut of Norihiro Koizumi . The roles of Kaoru Amane and Yui's life overlap in places. All of the songs played in the film, "Goodbye Days," "It's Happy Line," and "Skyline," were written by Yui.

Xeroderma pigmentosum is a rare skin disease that is more common in Japan than in other parts of the world. One in 40,000 Japanese has the disease.

The film was released in Japanese theaters on June 17, 2006. In addition, the music for the film was released on CD ( Good-bye days ) on June 14, 2006 under the stage name Yui for Amane Kaoru ( YUI for 雨 音 薫 ), which reached number 3 on the Oricon charts.

A month later, the TBS began broadcasting the television series Taiyō no Uta with Erika Sawajiri in the lead role. The plot of the series is identical to that of the film. The serial music comes from Hiroyuki Sawano .

There is also a manga ( ISBN 4592187539 ) published in 2006 by Kenji Bandō and Tsunami Minatsuki.

In 2010 there was a South Korean musical adaptation of the material, Midnight Sun ( 태양 의 노래 , Taeyangui Norae ), with Taeyeon from Girls' Generation as Kaoru Amane.

Awards

In 2007, Yui won the Japanese Academy Award in the Best Young Actor category for her role .
