Japanese Academy Awards 2007

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On February 16, 2007 , the 30th Japanese Academy Awards , Japan's national film awards, were held.

When the nominations were announced, the film Hula Girls by Japanese director Lee Sang-il led the field with 13 nominations and ultimately won in six categories (including two wins for young actors), making it the most successful film at the award. It is about young Japanese women who want to boost the economy of their small hometown by recreating Hawaii in the town. The comedy, which was Japan's candidate for a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2007 Academy Awards , dominated the categories of Best Picture and Best Director , among others . Also as a Best Picture nominee Koki Mitanis The Uchōten Hotel . This eleven times nominated and completely empty film is set on New Year's Eve in a Tokyo five-star hotel and describes the mishaps of the hotel staff. Love and Honor - Bushi no ichibun , the film adaptation of a novel by Shūhei Fujisawa, was nominated thirteen times and won three times . The samurai drama was directed by the renowned director Yōji Yamada , from whom several films (for example Samurai in the Twilight ) have already received awards at the Japanese Academy Awards. Junya Sato's war film Otoko-tachi no yamato and Tetsuya Nakashima's tragic comedy Memories of Matsuko each received nine nominations , the latter film not being nominated in the Best Picture category. Both were able to prevail in three categories each. Instead, Yukihiko Tsutsumi's five-time nominee Ashita no kioku drama was hoping for a successful businessman whose family life is affected by early signs of Alzheimer's disease. For Ashita no kioku there was only the leading actor award , which went to Ken Watanabe .

The Japanese Academy Award was presented for the first time in 2007 in the Best Animated Film category. Japan has one of the biggest animated film industries in the world and with other Japanese film awards such as the Mainichi Film Competition are anime awarded in separate categories. Two animated films, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away , have already won previous awards in the Best Film category . In 2007, in addition to the tenth Detective Conan film, the studio Ghibli work and directorial debut of Hayao Miyazaki's son Goro Miyazaki , Die Chroniken von Erdsee , was nominated for Best Animated Film, but Mamoru Hosoda's The Girl Who Leaped Through Time was awarded .

Special prizes were given to Akira Ifukube , Shōhei Imamura , Takahiro Tamura , Tetsurō Tamba and Takeomi Nakayama , all of whom died in 2006.
