Japanese Academy Award / Best Cinematography
Since 1980, the Japanese Academy Awards have honored the best cameramen in the Best Camera category ( Japanese 最 優秀 撮 影 賞 sai yūshū satsuei shō ). Previously, they were awarded in the category Best Technology , which was awarded for the second and last time in 1979 and was then split into several categories.
The only year in which four instead of five films were nominated was 1987. The winner of that year was Daisaku Kimura , who is the most successful cameraman at the Japanese Academy Awards with a total of eighteen nominations and three wins in this category. Mutsuo Naganuma and Sinsaku Himeda also received the award three times, but with only eight and five nominations respectively . The most common nominee without distinction is Yukio Isohata , who was nominated five times between 1985 and 2001.
The films are listed according to the year in which they were awarded.
