action

Japan, 1840: The Tokugawa Shogun dynasty is threatened with extinction because a corrupt ruler, Matsudaira Naritsugu in Akashi province, murders, robs and raped its own citizens. He will not be prosecuted because the ruling Shogun is his half-brother . Only the Minister of Justice rises to the challenge and hires the aging samurai Shinzaemon to murder Naritsugu. However, the plans are betrayed by the samurai Hanbei, a childhood friend of Shinzaemon who is loyal to Naritsugu.

Shinzaemon hires 11 more samurai to help, including his own nephew Shinroukuro. He plans to ambush Naritsugu on a trip. With the blessing and financial support of the Minister of Justice, the samurai evacuate the village of Ochiai, install traps and develop it into a fortress. Meanwhile, another provincial prince, whose son and daughter-in-law were killed and raped, ensures that the official route is blocked and that Naritsugu actually has to take the route through Ochiai.

At the same time, the samurai are attacked by a group of mercenaries hired by Hanbei. On the run over the mountains they get lost in a forest. They meet the hunter Kiga Koyata, who leads them out of the forest and accompanies them as the 13th warrior.

When the warriors arrive in Ochiai, they realize that Naritsugu has escaped. However, he returns and has now 200 soldiers instead of 70 to accompany him. A long battle ensues between the two sides.
