Midnite fun

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Midnite Fun was a Frankfurt funk band (1981–1990). It was founded by the bass player Marco Ramazzotto, the keyboard player Arman Vardar, the guitarist Peter Niebisch and the drummer Torsten Dechert . The role model is the funk band The Touch , also from Frankfurt , which was already a top act in the then very lively club scene in Frankfurt.

The musicians from Midnite Fun started out as a four-man band. There wasn't a cover song in their repertoire. Nevertheless, every single musician copied his respective role model with a certain youthful unrestrainedness (Ramazotto: Mark King from Level 42, Vardar: George Duke , Dechert: Steve Gadd , Niebisch: George Benson ), which sounded quite original when played together.

In 1983 the black singer Duval and the black singer Kathy Deans joined them. The brass section was now complete with trumpeter Matthias Schmidt (ex-The Touch), saxophonists Gernot Dechert and Michael Schulz and Felix Neunzerling on the trombone.

Neunzerling took over management. The debut concert at the Frankfurter Cookies was completely sold out - on a Monday at 1 a.m. In the following years the group played in front of full houses in Frankfurt and in the Rhine-Main area: Sinkkasten , Batschkapp , Cookies, Druckhaus Steinheim, Kuba Hanau.

From 1985 Midnite Fun toured nationwide. They played regularly in the Große Freiheit 36 in Hamburg or at the Haldern Pop Festival.

There were several line-up changes. Markus Deml replaced the guitarist Niebisch in 1985. Deml is now internationally known and has worked with Saga , Nena and many other acts live and in the studio.

When Markus Deml left the band in 1987 to study his instrument at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) in LA, Matthias Hoffmann replaced him. Ralf Hilden Beutel and Steffen Britzke were now on the keyboards . With this line-up change, the sound of Midnite Fun changed radically. The arrangements were no longer worked out together in sessions. Rather, the songs were now completely composed from the springs of individual actors. In a way, Midnite Fun sounded more modern to the ears of the time. At the same time, parts of the fans missed the original organic style of the band.

In 1987 drummer Torsten Dechert left the band. Arno Faulhaber came.

In 1990 the group gave one last concert in what was then the Frankfurt Music Hall, with Hannes Becher playing the guitar and Dechert back on the drums. Keyboardist played Ralf Hildenbeutel , the u as a producer and arranger. a. by Sven Väth soon became very well known.

A special feature is the fact that Midnite Fun have never entered a recording studio to document their music in the whole of their existence , although a significant number of renowned studio musicians and music producers emerged from this group. Apart from private recordings on tape cassette, which are in the possession of individual band members, there is no sound document of this then quite well-known scene band.
