Midori-ku ( Japanese 緑 区 , dt. 'Green district') is a district ( ku ) of the Japanese city of Saitama .
history
As an independent city with over 500,000 inhabitants, Urawa was the administrative seat of Saitama Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan, until 2001 . On May 1, 2001 Urawa was dissolved as a city (Shi) and amalgamated with Ōmiya , Yono and Iwatsuki to form the new prefecture capital Saitama, in which the former city of Urawa comprises the southern districts of Sakura ('cherry'), Urawa, Minami ('south') and Midori forms.
