Mifflinburg is a small town in Union County of the US state Pennsylvania, founded in 1792 . The population is around 3,500.
The place is located in a rural area known for the Amish and Mennonite farms . These are descendants of German emigrants , of whom there are many in and around Mifflinburg. They live very traditionally and strictly religiously. Many do without electricity and running water and still use buggies , a particular horse-drawn vehicle , instead of cars.
Mifflinburg is home to u. a. several parishes, has a swimming pool, a bowling alley ( Bowling Alley), three schools (Elementary School, Middle School and High School), various shops and restaurants and also the Company's best-known fast food chains. Four buildings and sites in the village are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 2, 2020): the Hassenplug Bridge , the William A. Heiss House and Buggy Shop , the Mifflinburg Historic District and the George Christian and Anna Catherine Spangler Farm .
During the Christmas season there is the Christkindl Market with mainly German specialties, which shows that the place has a German background, through the German emigrants who founded the place. In addition, the Mifflinburg Octoberfest always takes place on the first weekend in October .
