Might & Magic X: Legacy is a computer role-playing game developed by the German company Limbic Entertainment and published by Ubisoft . It was released on January 23, 2014 as a downloadable title for Microsoft Windows , later also in an "Old School Deluxe Box". A version for OS X is currently under development.

On March 27, 2014, Ubisoft and the Limbic Entertainment development team announced the end of Might & Magic X: Legacy, and there would be no more releases for the game.

action

The plot does not follow on from the predecessor Might & Magic 9 , but continues the development of the events from the strategy offshoot Might & Magic: Heroes 6 and therefore takes place in the fantasy world Ashan. The Agyn Peninsula is threatened by evil creatures and the player's group of heroes tries to find the cause. In doing so, she encounters a web of intrigues.

Gameplay

At the beginning, the player creates a hero group of four characters, whereby he has the choice between several races (human, orc, elf, dwarf) and twelve classes (three for each race), each with a "Might" class (fighter type), a “Magic” class and a hybrid class. Similar to Might & Magic 6 and Might & Magic 7 , each class has a talent system with the levels expert, master, grandmaster and a promotional quest.

The naturally designed 3D world is shown from the first person perspective and is divided up like a chessboard. The group of heroes does not move freely, but in blocks from field to field, with changes of direction always taking place at a 90 ° angle. The fights are turn based.

With the publication of a teaser website on March 15, 2013, Ubisoft indicated the possible development of a tenth title in the series, and the official announcement trailer finally followed on March 21. Ubisoft announced the return to the blocky gameplay of the Might & Magic parts 1-5. The voice of Sheltem, the main antagonist of the first five games, was also heard in the trailer.

The game was developed by the German developer Limbic Entertainment using Unity . The developers announced a game principle similar to that of the World of Xeen ( Might & Magic 3 - 5 ), but also the adoption of ideas such as the talent system of the later series parts. By changing the scenario, the game dispenses with the science fiction elements of the earlier series parts. Might & Magic X requires a one-time activation via Ubisoft's online platform Uplay . Ubisoft also released development tools that make it easier to create fan modifications .

On March 14, 2014, Ubisoft announced the download expansion The Falcon and the Unicorn with a new quest line and new locations, which was released on March 27.

Might & Magic X: Legacy received mixed ratings. Richard Cobbett from PC Gamer rated the tenth part as a successful tribute to the retro style of play, despite a few shortcomings: “What gives Legacy its old-school charm, despite everything, is that it is so much under an obviously low budget and the game-mechanical sacrifices by going back to the previous decade, a love is palpable for his style, which underpins the action. "

Another point of criticism was Ubisoft's Uplay service. Eurogamer's Stace Harman wrote: “Unfortunately, not everything is gloriously old-school, as evidenced by Ubisoft's insistence that the game must authenticate through the Uplay platform. The whole thing has no noticeable advantage for the player, only the potential for more complications. "
