Miguel Paulo José Maria da Silva Paranhos do Rio-Branco (born January 21, 1917 in Paris , † 1995 ) was a Brazilian diplomat .

Life

Miguel Paulo José Maria da Silva Paranhos do Rio-Branco was the son of the doctor Françoise Lebert do Rio Branco and the surgeon Paulo A. da Silva Paranhos do Rio-Branco and the grandson of José Maria da Silva Paranhos Júnior, barão do Rio Branco. From 1902 to 1912 he was Brazilian Foreign Minister. He became a Brazilian citizen under Article 115 of the 1937 Constitution. With a law of February 10, 1939, he was accepted into the foreign service of the Itamaraty . From 1942 he was employed at the Consulate in Cardiff .

From September 1 to 6, 1961, he was an observer for the Brazilian government at the Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade . From 1961 to 1964 he was counselor in Bern , where he acted as chargé d'affaires in 1963 . From 1964 to 1966 he represented the Brazilian torture regime at the UN headquarters and conveyed the views of the government of Hendrik Frensch Verwoerd to a seminar on apartheid in Brazil.

From February 24, 1967 to April 4, 1970 he was ambassador to Guatemala City . On December 17, 1970 he was accepted into the Order of Malta . From 1974 to November 1977 he was ambassador to Tel Aviv . From October 11, 1977 to 1984 he was ambassador to Belgrade.
