Vasco Mariz

Vasco Mariz (born January 22, 1921 in Rio de Janeiro ; † June 16, 2017 there ) was a Brazilian historian , musicologist , writer and diplomat .

Life

Vasco Mariz studied music at the Conservatório Brasileiro de Música and law at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro until 1943 . In 1945 he joined the Itamaraty foreign service . In 1947 he studied the history of diplomacy . From 1948 to 1949 he was Vice Consul in Porto . From 1949 to 1951 he was employed in Yugoslavia. In 1950 he was a reporting member of the Instituto Coimbra in Portugal . From 1951 to 1954 he worked in Rosario and from 1956 to 1958 in Rome . From 1958 to 1960 he was employed in Washington, DC . From 1960 to 1962 he was employed at the UN headquarters .

In 1967 he was appointed envoy. From 1967 to 1969 he was the Brazilian government representative at the Organization of American States and chaired the Inter-American Music Council. From 1969 to 1970 he was head of the Itamaraty's culture department . From January 8, 1971 to 1974 he was ambassador to Quito . In 1971 he was appointed ambassador. From 1974 to 1977 he represented the Itamaraty at the Brazilian National Congress . From December 13, 1977 to 1982 he was ambassador to Nicosia and accredited to the government in Tel Aviv . In 1981 he became a member of the Academia Brasileira de Música , which he chaired from 1991 to 1993. From 1982 to 2002 he was a member of the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro . From 1982 to 1984 he was ambassador to Lima . From 1984 to 1987 he was ambassador to Berlin .

From 1987 to 1996 he chaired the Brazilian section of the PEN . In 1987 he became a member of the Academia Brasileira de Arte . From 1987 to 1989 he was a member of the Conselho Federal de Cultura , where he was commissioner for music and plastic arts affairs . In 1991 he became a member of the Conselho Técnico da Confederação Nacional do Comércio. From 1999 to 2004 he was a member of the Conselho Editorial da Biblioteca do Exécito (army publisher). In 2002 he became a member of the Conselho Empresarial de Cultura da Associação Comercial do Rio de Janeiro . In 2002 he became a corresponding member of the Real Academia de la Historia .
