Mihály Dresch (born July 10, 1955 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian jazz saxophonist.

Life

Dresch started playing the saxophone at the age of twelve . He completed an engineering degree before becoming a professional musician. He has performed with musicians such as Imre Kőszegi and Géza Lakatos, was a member of Károly Binder's quartet and has been a long-time partner of the pianist György Szabados .

In 1984 he founded his own quartet, which has existed since then with a changing line-up. Among others, István Baló , Róbert Benkő , Félix Lajkó , Ferenc Kovács , Miklós Lukács and Mátyás Szandai belonged to him. The quartet has worked with musicians such as John Tchicai , Archie Shepp , Roscoe Mitchell , Chico Freeman , David Murray and Dewey Redman .

Dresch recorded fifteen albums as a band leader. The album Straight Music was named album of the year by Gramofon magazine in 2004, and Dresch was named Hungarian jazz musician of the year the following year.
