Mihnea Ioan Motoc (born November 11, 1966 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian diplomat and was his country's ambassador to the European Union until November 2015 .

Life

Motoc studied law at the University of Bucharest from 1984 to 1989. He then completed a Certificate of Post-Graduate Studies in Private International Law at the University of Nice . Motoc has been a Romanian diplomat since the early 1990s when he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. In the 1990s, Motoc spent time in various Romanian governments.

Motoc is married to Iulia Motoc , professor of international law and expert and judge at the Constitutional Court of Romania ; they have one son.

Motoc had been a diplomat since the early 1990s when he entered the service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. He spent most of the 1990s in the service of various Romanian governments. He went to the United Nations in 2003, where he spent five years as the Permanent Representative of Romania. In 2008 he left the UN to become Romania's Permanent Representative to the European Union.

Awards

  • 2000: Order of Merit of Romania with the rank of commander for special services to the country
  • 2007: Order of Diplomatic Merit with the rank of Officer for Outstanding Work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
