Mihnea Turcitul
Mihnea Turcitul ( Mihnea, the Turkized, the Islamized ) was a Romanian prince or voivode of Wallachia between September 1577 and July 1583 and again from April 1585 to May 1591 .
Life
He was the son and successor of Alexandru II. Mircea and Ecaterina Salvaresso , in both terms of office Petru Cercel appeared as an opponent of Mihnea. Petru finally usurped the throne from 1583 to 1585 and temporarily pushed Mihnea into Turkish exile in Tripoli . He bought Turkish help on his return to Bucharest (?) Through tax increases, but was replaced by Ștefan Surdul by the Turks in 1591 .
meaning
Mihnea became known historically after being deposed through his conversion to Islam , which, as Mehmet Bey , earned him the governorship of the small province of Nicopolis in Bulgaria and his son Radu Mihnea the title of Wallachian prince in 1601.
