Mikael Källström [ ˘cɛlstrøm ] (born February 26, 1959 ) is a former Swedish football player who now works as a coach. He is the father of the Swedish international Kim Källström and made 57 appearances in the Allsvenskan himself .

Career

Källström started playing football at IFK Hedemora . In 1977 he moved to Sandvikens IF . For the club he went to Division 2 . 1982 the best result was achieved when he with the team as third in the table of the northern season behind Djurgårdens IF and Gefle IF just missed the promotion round to Allsvenskan. After another year in the second division with the club from Sandvikens, he moved to Gefle IF in the first division in the spring of 1984. However, he missed relegation with the team and was relegated back to the second division. In the following years he played with the club for promotion, but sometimes only narrowly missed the goal. Before the beginning of the 1990 season, he therefore moved on to league rivals BK Häcken . With the Gothenburg club he was the season winner straight away, but failed in the promotion games to GIF Sundsvall . In the following year, the team failed only in the promotion round at Helsingborgs IF , before the promotion was made perfect in 1992. He ran for two more years for the club and ended his active career after relegation in 1994.

In 1994 he also sat on the coaching bench at BK Häcken as an assistant. From 1995 Källström took over at Jonsereds IF in the third class Division 2 as coach. In 1997 he returned to BK Häcken as an assistant trainer and also guided his son Kim to his new employer. In 2001 he left the club to take over third division Skene IF, but missed relegation. Therefore, he returned to BK Häcken again in 2002 as an assistant coach. In 2005 he had to sit on the bench again as a substitute player in the Allsvenskan after an injury mishap at the club, but was ultimately not used.

In November 2008, Källström left BK Häcken for Norway. Patrick Walker signed him to his coaching staff at Sandefjord Fotball , where he is responsible for the training and development of the players. When Walker was dismissed from the club in May 2011 after a bad start to the season of the first division relegated in the Adeccoligaen , he took over responsibility on an interim basis. At the end of the month, Arne Sandstø, who was active in Germany in the early 1990s, took over the coaching position.
