Matthews participated primarily in the Nor Am Cup from 2006 to 2010. She won her only victory to date in Arapahoe Basin in February 2009 and finished second in the Moguls discipline in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons. In the World Cup she made her debut on January 19, 2012 in Lake Placid and took 16th place in the Moguls competition. The following year she achieved her first World Cup podium with second place in the dual moguls in Inawashiro . At the 2013 World Championships in Voss she came in 14th place in the moguls and 11th in the dual moguls.
At the beginning of the 2015/16 season , Matthews won her first World Cup in Ruka in the Dual-Moguls. In the further course of the season she reached four top 10 positions in the World Cup and at the end of the season she achieved sixth place in the Moguls World Cup. In March 2016 she became the American champion in the Dual Moguls. In the World Cup winter 2016/17 she was classified three times among the top ten.
Matthews has taken part in 52 World Cup races so far and was in the top ten 18 times. (Status: end of season 2016/17)
