Mike Gratton

Mike Gratton (born November 28, 1954 ) is a retired British marathon runner .

He was a successful track runner in school and college, where he was trained to be a PE teacher , until he was run over by a forklift in 1977.

After his recovery, he switched to road running . In 1979 he achieved a time of 2:21:22 h on his marathon debut and then won the Polytechnic Marathon in 2:19:53. In 1982 he finished third in the London Marathon in 2:12:30 and, starting for England , won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane in 2:12:06.

His greatest success was the following year, when he won the London Marathon in 2:09:43, a time with which he took 13th place on the UK's All-Time Leaderboard (November 2009). At the marathon of the World Athletics Championships 1983 in Helsinki, he did not reach the goal.

He then founded the company 2:09 Events, which specializes in sports travel and the organization of running events.

Mike Gratton started for the Invicta East Kent Athletics Club.
