Mike Johnson (Director)

Michael "Mike" W. Johnson (* in Austin , Texas ) is an American director , producer and animator .

Life

Johnson says he spent much of his childhood in Austin bending and breaking plastic dinosaurs , trying in vain to recreate new scenes from his favorite book for the Ray Harryhausen film .

A few years later he joined the Rhode Iceland School of Design from in Film / Animation / Video and was moved to San Francisco , where he obtained a great success as an animator with his first collaboration with director Tim Burton in the film The Nightmare Before Christmas was able to achieve . Johnson then worked on several stop-motion films , including James and the Giant Peach and the Emmy- winning children's series Bump in the Night .

In 1996 he founded his own animation company, Fat Cactus Films, and in the years that followed he directed many commercials, music videos and other short films. His directorial debut on a short film, The Devil Went Down to Georgia , has been shown at film festivals around the world. In 1998, Johnson moved to Portland to direct three episodes of Janitor Stubbs with Eddie Murphy . In 2002 he was finally asked by Tim Burton to direct with him on Corpse Bride , another stop-motion film for which he received an Oscar nomination.

Johnson has been married to his wife Dyan since 1989 and has one child with her. His sister Bethany Johnson is active as a writer. He also has a brother named Josh and another sister, Mallory.
