Mike Mardesich

Nikola Mike Mardesich (born July 29, 1977 in Long Beach ) is a former American - Croatian basketball player .

Life

His father immigrated to the United States from Croatia. As a child, Mardesich temporarily lived with his family in his father's homeland. He played basketball as a student in Boston , Massachusetts , Conroe , Texas, and at the Worcester Academy in Massachusetts. The 2.12 meter indoor player moved to the University of Maryland, suspended in the 1996/97 season and then played for the university team until 2001. With 137 appearances, he played more games for the University of Maryland than any other basketball player before him, but his record was exceeded in 2002. In the attack, Mardesich remained inconspicuous during his university career with 3.7 points per encounter, he also got 3.3 rebounds per game. Mardesich majored in four major subjects while studying at the University of Maryland: International Economics, Finance, Marketing, and Logistics.

In the summer of 2001, he belonged to the levy of the Boston Celtics for the NBA - summer league that he did not receive a contract for the next NBA season. In the run-up to the 2001/2002 game year, Mardesich switched to the basketball league  in Germany instead  , where he joined Telekom Baskets Bonn . For the Rhinelander he played 34 league games during the season, reached the Bundesliga semi-finals with the team and recorded an average of 9.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per encounter in his 34 appearances. With Bonn he also competed in the European club competition Saporta Cup .

In the summer of 2002 he took part in the NBA Summer League again, where he wore the colors of the Washington Wizards . During the 2002/03 season Mardesich was under contract with the French first division club SIG Strasbourg (9.7 points, 6.1 rebounds / game). With Strasbourg he also played in the European Cup. He went back to the Bundesliga the following season and joined TXU Energie Braunschweig . Mardesich was used by the Lower Saxony in 26 Bundesliga games (10.8 points, 7.3 rebounds / game). There were also games in the ULEB Cup at European level. In Braunschweig he was accused of weaknesses in defense.

Mardesich moved to the Eiffel Towers Nijmegen in the Netherlands for the 2004/05 season . In the ULEB Cup he was one of the team's main scorer with 14.3 points per encounter. In his last season as a professional basketball player, Mardesich was briefly under contract with the French first division club Reims in 2005/06.

After returning to the United States, he worked in business consulting and accounting.
