Mike Reid (musician)

Mike Reid (born May 24, 1947 in Altoona, Pennsylvania ) is an American country musician and songwriter who wrote several number 1 hits in the 1980s and 1990s.

Life

Mike Reid initially enjoyed success as a football player before injuries forced him to give up. He had already played in various bands during his sports career. He had also completed classical piano training as a child. After a knee injury, began writing country songs. In 1975 he was a member of the Apple Butter Band.

In 1980 Reid moved to Nashville , where he was hired as a songwriter by ATV Publishing . After 18 months he moved to Milsap Music. In 1982 Ronnie Milsap scored a number 1 hit with his song Stranger In My House . Only a little later, Sylvia reached number three on the country charts with I Never Quite Go Back . In 1983, Stranger In My House received a Grammy Award in the "Best Country Song" category. A year later, Milsap had another number one hit with Still Loosing You , She Keeps the Home Fires Burning and Lost in the Fifties Tonight .

In 1990, after a long series of successful compositions, Reid recorded his own album for the Columbia label. The released single Walk on Faith reached number one on the country charts. Three more songs reached middle hit parade positions. Reid also wrote the song I Can't Make You Love Me with James Allen Shamblin III , which Bonnie Raitt released in 1991 and Prince covered on his album Emancipation (1996). In 1992, Reid's second album, Twilight Town, was released. As a songwriter, he continued to produce successful tracks for other performers. Among other things, he was involved as a co-author of Tim McGraw's top hit Everywhere .

In 2005, Mike Reid was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame .
