Michael John "Mike" Sinclair (born October 13, 1938 in Grimsby ; † May 12, 2017 ibid) was an English football player .

Career

Sinclair came in May 1954 as an amateur to Grimsby Town and initially played for the reserve teams, in 1957 he received a professional contract. After he had scored 21 goals for the reserve team in the Midland League in the 1957/58 season , he was given preference over Tommy Briggs for the last game of the season in the Second Division against Bristol City and scored one goal in a 3-2 win at home Blundell Park . Nevertheless, appearances for the center forward remained rare in the following period, after the interim relegation to the third division , he played in October 1959 (three games) and September 1960 (two games) again a few league games, but remained without scoring. By doing his military service from 1960 to 1962 his career was finally interrupted and Sinclair was assigned to the Royal Corps of Signals in Northern Ireland. He then received approval from Grimsby and played for Ards FC in Northern Irish football.

During his time in the army, he became a British Army Champion over the 200-meter sprint course. After his discharge from military service, he was active both as a footballer and in cricket at Ross Sports .

Sinclair, who was married twice and had four children from his first marriage, lived first in Cleethorpes and later in Humberston , in close proximity to Grimsby. He earned his living - after training at SP Commercials in the port of Grimsby - at the food company Ross Group . Sinclair died of lung cancer in May 2017 at the age of 78 at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby.
