Mike W. Barr (born May 30, 1952 ) is an American novelist and comic book writer. Barr was best known as a writer of mystery and science fiction novels, as well as a comic book writer .

Life

Barr began working as a full-time comic book writer in the mid-1970s. His first published work, an eight-page mystery short story about the adventurer Elongated Man , appeared at the turn of the year 1974/1975 in the comic book Detective Comics # 444. In the following years he wrote other short stories for Detective Comics and for the horror comic series House of Mystery , both of which appeared in the DC Comics program .

At the beginning of the 1980s Barr also took on writing jobs for the publisher Marvel Comics , for which he delivered some scripts for the series Marvel Team-Up and Mystery in Space . He also worked as a guest author for the series Captain America , for which he wrote issue # 241. Several booklets for the Hulk and Spider-Man followed later . At that time he was writing the Green Lanter and Batman series for DC .

In 1981, Barr took over editorial duties for the first time when he took over the post of editor for the science fiction series Legion of Super-Heroes , which appeared on DC, beginning with issue # 277 .

Barr experienced his breakthrough as a comic book author in 1982 with the mini-series Camelot 3000 , a modern interpretation of the Celtic Arthurian legend that takes the legendary British king into the 30th century. The miniseries, which was written by Barr and translated into naturalistic images by the Briton Brian Bolland , was one of the greatest successes in the American comic market, both artistically and commercially. From August 1983 to 1986 Barr wrote the self-developed team-up series Batman and the Outsiders (later renamed The Outsiders ). As a draftsman, Jim Aparo was put at his side again.

Following the graphic novel Batman visualized by Jerry Bingham . 1987 Son of the Demon , which was not only a huge commercial hit but also received high-pitched critical acclaim, Barr served as the writer of the Batman stories for the Detective Comics for nearly two years . At that time, the British Alan Davis was a seconded artist .

Barr's private projects that were published by Malibu Comics, but to which Barr himself holds the rights, are the series Mantra and Maze Agency . His artistic partner on Mantra was Terry Dodson .

As a book author, Barr has written several novels on the American television series Star Trek .
