Life

Miklós Géza Zilahy studied agricultural science in Budapest . After the failure of the Hungarian uprising in 1956, Zilahy fled to the West and was able to continue his studies at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . He received his PhD in 1961 in Giessen for Dr. agr. and completed his habilitation in 1970 on the subject of accounting and data processing . From 1962 he was an assistant and then a private lecturer at the Institute for Farm Management in Giessen. He was one of the first in German-speaking countries to turn to computer science in research and teaching . After completing his doctorate, Zilahy specialized in questions of integrated accounting in connection with data processing and developed integrated program systems that were then transferred to information systems . This worked on the computer network of the Hessian universities and brought its experience to the standards committee of the federal government with regard to the protocol exchange in the EDI . After a research stay at the University of Illinois , relational databases , integrated systems with matrix accounting for bookkeeping , cost accounting and planning were developed.

Other focal points of his work were programs that support advice such as balance sheet analysis , liquidity analysis , expert systems , information management , quality management , workflow management for business processes of service providers, development of digitized checklists and benchmarking .

After changing the department, Zilahy held the professorship for software engineering at the Institute for Computer Science at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen until his retirement in April 2002 . Zilahy is an honorary doctor of the Szent István University .
