Milan Hrabal

Milan Hrabal (born January 10, 1954 in Varnsdorf ) is a Czech author.

Life

After graduating from the School of Economics in Česká Lípa , he worked as an economist, later as the head of the school and cultural department of the city office in Varnsdorf. Since 2007 he has been working in the music department of the Varnsdorf City Library. He was also the head of the poetry studio “Doteky” ( touches ). Between 1990 and 2003 he was an editor and also worked for the literary magazine "Psí víno" ( dog wine ). He organizes literary competitions for children and adults in Varnsdorf. Milan Hrabal is a member of several literary associations, including the PEN Center in the Czech Republic and the Czech Writers' Association.

Hrabal writes poetry and prose, and is also a post-poet, mainly from Sorbian . He has also edited several anthologies, including one entitled “Jazyk, jímž porozumíš větru” ( The Language With Which You Understand the Wind ), with poetry from Sorbian, where he was also a post-poet.

To date, he has published over 60 publications as editor . He has written eleven volumes of poetry, an anthology with short stories and a children's book. In 1981 his debut volume "Sólo větru" ( Solo for the Wind ) was published by the North Czech publishing house Ústí nad Labem. His last lyrical work to date, the poetry cycle “Cestou víry a bolesti” ( On the Path of Pain and Faith ), has been translated into several languages, including Sorbian, German and English. Hrabal belongs to the Orpheus group of authors and was a participant in the Niederneißische Literaturtage in Zgorzelec .
