Milen Emilow Weltschew (also spelled Milen Emilov Velchev ; Bulgarian Милен Емилов Велчев ; born March 24, 1966 in Sofia , Bulgaria ) is a Bulgarian financial expert, politician of the NDWS party , member of the London “Bulgarian City Club” and former finance minister.

Life

Milen Weltschew was born on March 24, 1966 in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. In 1988 he completed a degree in international relations at the Karl Marx Higher Economic Institute (now the University of National and World Economy ) in Sofia . In 1993 he received a Master of Business Administration at the University of Rochester and in 1995 in Financial Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . In 1994 he worked as a temp at the Chemical Bank of New York .

From 1995 to 2001 Weltschew worked for the investment bank Merrill Lynch in London . There he met Kiril Sakskoburggotsky .

In 2001 Weltschew was elected to the Bulgarian parliament with the list of the NDWS . Shortly afterwards, Simeon Sakskoburggotski appointed him to his cabinet as finance minister. He held this office until 2005, when he took part as a candidate for the NDSW for the mayoral election in Sofia and was defeated by Boyko Borissow . In the parliamentary elections in the same year Weltschew was re-elected as a member of parliament. When the government was formed, in which the NDWS formed a grand coalition with the DPS and the BSP , Plamen Orescharski became finance minister. Weltschew remained active as a member of parliament and became deputy chairman of the budget committee.

In the parliamentary elections on July 5, 2009, the NDSW failed with 3% of the vote because of the 4% threshold. Weltschew has been a member of the National Board of the NDSW since November 2009.

Milen Weltschew is married and has one son. His brother is the large hotelier Georgi Weltschew.
