Simeon Djankow (2010)

Simeon Djankov Dentschew (including Simeon Djankov Denchev written Bulgarian Симеон Денчев Дянков * 13. July 1970 in Lovech , People's Republic of Bulgaria ) is a Bulgarian politician, former Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister (2009-2013) and former World Bank -Ökonom, Chief Economist for the finance and private sector of the World Bank group. Djankow is the author and founder of the World Bank's Doing Business series and one of the 150 most cited economists in the world. He is married and has two sons.

In the run-up to the Bulgarian parliamentary elections in 2009 , Simeon Djankow had helped to develop the GERB party's economic policy program . A key point was that until the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria, the pegging of the Bulgarian currency lev to the euro would remain in place; this had already been agreed with the International Monetary Fund . Such a one-sided binding of the exchange rate is called a currency board . After the election, won by the GERB party, Simeon Dyankov was sworn in on July 27th as Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in the government of Boyko Borisov .

On February 18, 2013, Djankow resigned after nationwide protests against high electricity bills.
